Under Chairman Ajit Pai, the FCC has streamlined and updated a host of radio regulations, but there are still a number of regulatory and legislative issues facing radio broadcasters. In addition to questions around a new paradigm for radio ownership rules and how the FCC should treat the thousands of new FM translators coming on line, perhaps the biggest challenge of all is music licensing, where increasing complexity around streaming rates, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR, and potential legislation makes nearly every day an adventure for local radio.
